Venezuela: Los Llanos – In Search of Wildlife
A full day exploration of Los Llanos – morning to evening – yields a lot of sightings. Besides hundred of bird species, there are many mammals and reptiles ti to pursue – capybaras and caymans in thousands, many turtles and iguanas and other lizards. as well as some rarer species like Venezuelan Red Howler Monkeys, White-fronted Capuchins, White-tailed Deer, and more. Plus you run into domestic animals like cattle and black pigs. At night there are nocturnal species to spot – like the endangered Orinoco Crocodile (these guys are quite rare and they are massive and dangerous), puma and jaguars (very elusive and we don’t see any), Crab-eating Foxes.
