Venezuela: Mt Roraima – Bromeliad Plants on Mt Roraima
Bromeliad plants are usually associated with lush rainforest, but they grow in profusion on top of Mount Roraima for a different reason – most bromeliads are epiphytes or semi-epiphytes (drawing water from air rather then soil). The terrain of Roraima is almost pure black rock with very poor if any soil, but the rains are constant and humidity is near 100%. Some of them here are even carnivorous! The density of bromeliads is immense, you can even find up to 10 species in a small couple sq meter spot.
