Venezuela: Mt Roraima – Hike to Lago Gladys
Lago Gladys is one of several bodies of water on top of Mount Roraima, like others it drains inside the mountain and not over the edge. Located at the furthest end of the Roraima plateau, it’s very seldom visited (less then 500 people per year). It’s an all day hike through somewhat different landscape – the eastern edge of Roraima is much wetter then the rest and there is more vegetation here, like endemic trees and more profuse flora. The lake itself is almost constantly shrouded in thick fog and the winds here are quite ferocious. The lake is very close to the plateau’s edge.
