Venezuela: Mucuchies

Mucuchies is one of the most high-altitude towns in Venezuela, sitting at 2,983 m (nearly 9,800 ft) above in the high Andes along the Trans-Andean Highway. Mucuchíes translates roughly to “Place of Cold”. The town has traditional Spanish colonial design with cobblestone streets, whitewashed adobe houses, and the Iglesia de Santa Lucia, built using local stone and dark timber. The surrounding hillsides are carved with stone terraces for cultivating cold-climate crops like potatoes, garlic, carrots, and wheat.
