Venezuela: Stone Church aka Capilla de Piedra

Just a few kilometers along the Trans-Andean Hughway from Mucuchies is yet another interesting attraction – the Stone Church aka Capilla de Piedra. It was constructed between 1980 and 1984 entirely by hand without mortar or heavy machinery. Every rock, slab, and stone was hand-picked from the local valleys and Chama River bed and dry-stacked to form the walls, arches, and bell tower. The church is rather small with a stone bell tower beside the main nave, topped with an iron cross. The interior is equally minimalist.
