Vietnam: Phong Nha NP – Landscapes of Phong Nha National Park
Underground – there are the otherworldly spectacles of caves, over 500 of them here. But above ground is an absolutely surreal landscape of towering limestone hills, rice fields, rivers, and conical Vietnamese churches. It’s a vast territory of this almost impassable terrain, going for miles and miles with only a few villages in between and no roads. That’s why all the caves were only recently discovered, late 1990s/ early 2000s – nobody ventured into the jungle. The best way to enjoy the landscape is from a bicycle – the farmstay I was staying at had free bikes – and I drove around the idyllic paradise of limestone towers and hills, especially pretty at sunset.
