Vietnam: Phong Nha NP – Thien Duong aka Paradise Cave

The true reason for coming to Vietnam was to spend nearly a week exploring the insane newly discovered caves of the remote Phong Nha National Park in the central part of the country. Many caves are remote and require multi day expeditions, but several are more accessible. The absolute show cave was the Paradise Cave, only discovered and explored in 2005 – it is now the crown jewel of the park, accessible on foot. After a tram ride through the jungle and a half-hour steep hike to the entrance, you enter down into the cave’s massive cathedral of a hall and continue for nearly a kilometer surrounded by enormous columns and humongous stalagmites (the cave actually continues for 30 more km). The cave is wet and all the formations glisten with dripping water. Truly spectacular and one of the most impressive caves I have seen! But stay tuned for more caves – I didn’t come here for just one…
