Wallis Futuna: Lake Lalolalo Crater
This place was just incredible – tucked very deep in the central island’s jungle (it’s a good 45 minute ride on 4WD only roads to get here), this amazing crater lake was surreal in the afternoon sun. The lake is almost perfectly circular, with vertical 100 feet walls dropping down to the water level – there is no access to water. With maximum depth of over 250 feet, this drops below the ocean water level. The lake fills the crater of an ancient extinct volcano. With practically no developed tourism on Wallis – you can have the entire lake to yourself.
