Western Sahara: Laayoune – capital of Western Sahara

Laayoune is the capital of Western Sahara and is seeing massive investment and construction by Morocco – squares, monuments, new buildings and streets – all having more Moroccan flags on them then there are people living in the city. While technically the capital of a disputed Western Sahara, it is de facto Moroccan and people are quite happy with being so, given all the money flowing in and jobs created. There are several pretty mosques, an old Spanish cathedral, and several large atmospheric squares. A river runs nearby supplying the town with water, while Saharan endless dunes begin just outside the city limitsal?
