Zambia: Elephants at Mfuwe Lodge
Elephants come to Mfuwe Lodge in the heart of the South Luangwa National Park for the fruits of the wild mango tree that grows just outside the reception area. This phenomenon became so famous that the lodge was even profiled on CNN. The elephants feel totally at home around the lodge – they wander over the pathway, around the kitchen area, next to the reception, pretty much everywhere – including once in while they even walk through the lodge itself under the roof. It’s incredible! You can sit at the dining area and watch elephants meticulously pick tiny wild mango fruits for hours. Easily one of the best wildlife experiences on earth! This only happens for less than one month per year when the mango fruits ripen.
