Zambia: Hippos at Sunset on Luangwa River
Just a short drive from the Bilimungwe Camp to a wide-open expanse of the Luangwa River where hundreds and hundreds of hippos inhabit the shallow waters. Just one count of the visible hippos at a given moment got me to 134! Amazingly, local fishermen fish from their tiny boats within just feet of the hippos and the crocs that also inhabit these waters. And finally, the sunset lights up the entire floodplain with purple making for another stunning experience and views.
