Algeria: Algiers – French Architecture of Algiers
While the Casbah of Algiers is a medieval ancient me of narrow streets, mosques, and Islamic architecture – the heart of Algiers is more resembling of Paris with broad avenues, white French-style houses, and various monuments, restaurants and cafes, and museums and universities. There are dozen of buildings that resemble NYC’s Flatiron – a narrow corner building – with an added bonus of inclined ground. It really felt like you are in the heart of Paris at times. Algiers is known as Alger la Blanche (“Algiers the White”) for the snow-white of its buildings and avenues.
