Brazil: Brasilia – Catedral Metropolitana

The signature architectural piece of Brasilia is the modernist Catedral Metropolitana (the official seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Brazil). Designed by Oscar Neimeyer, it is made of 16 massive curved concrete 90-ton cement blocks forming a circle around a dome-like austere structure of stained glass. It’s grand and atmospheric inside, lit by only natural light. There is also a futuristic bell-tower, and the bronze figures of four apostles outside.
