Canada/Newfoundland: Woody Point

With the population of 281, Woody Point is not really a megapolis, and yet it is the largest settlement in northern Newfoundland, deep inside the Bonne Bay fjord. Originally established as a French fishing outpost, it slowly became the home of the British fishermen who stayed here rather then return home. By the early 20th century, awash with the fishing money, Woody Point was a bustling town with banks, a theater, and a harbor full of large and small fishing vessels. But, alas, in 1922, a fire pretty much wiped Woody Point off the map and the scale of the pre-fire town never returned. As you wonder around it today, there are several historic 1920s buildings, an absolutely gorgeous “classic” lighthouse, several churches, and just the overall atmosphere of the backward Newfoundland charm. I guess this is what they call “quaint”?
