Cyprus: Nicosia (Lefkosia)

Nicosia is like Berlin used to be – divided into two parts. After the events of 1974, when Cyprus attempted to annex itself to Greece and Turkey invaded to prevent that – the country got cut into two (Northern Cyprus proclaimed independence in 1983). The capital of Nicosia however is literally cut in two. The southern, Cypriot side has some pretty traditional Cypriot buildings, an old Hamam, and fortified city walls. The city was actually built as an 11-corner star fortress with massive city walls and gates. Sadly now split into two.
