Cyprus: Troodos Mountains

Troodos Mountains (a UNESCO World Heritage site for natural beauty and Byzantine churches) offer a drastically different landscape in Cyprus than beaches or archeological fields. Rising steeply to almost 2000m/>6000ft, the Troodos range dominates central Cyprus. Twisting roads cross cross the mountains, one even leads to the top of the highest peak in Cyprus – Mt Olympus. The mountains are all covered with pine forests as far as the eye could see. Interestingly, several copper mines here used to supply the entire Mediterranean with copper.
