Devon Island: Arctic Seabirds

First, a disclaimer – I am by no means a birder, and seeing something flying doesn’t give me a jolt to raise binoculars or a massive camera to capture it (I don’t own either actually). But being surrounded by all these “avid” birders kind of infects you into watching and photographing the arctic species around you. The Arctic isn’t like the Antarctica, and the number of species and sightings is much less here. Nevertheless, almost every day, you get to see fulmars, kittiwakes, common muirs, some kind of geese, more fulmar, and some more fulmars. They often swing in front of the ship or along the sides, occasionally dropping for fish or resting on a floating ice chunk. And that’s when professional birders raise their 600mm guns and start shooting on full auto…
