Libya: Tripoli – British WWII Cemetery

Right in the heart of Tripoli, in Mansura district, sits the walled and gated cemetery for the British and allied Australian and Kiwi soldiers that fought Italians in WWII here. There are a total of 1242 graves of various soldiers of Allied forces of different ethnic backgrounds and religious – Christian, Muslim, Jewish. The cemetery is maintained and protected by the British embassy and is apparently the cleanest area in the entire Tripoli as I was told. Interestingly, the cemetery for the Italian soldiers is adjacent to this, but is completely abandoned and not maintained.
