Panama: Volcan Baru NP – Pipeline Trail

Volcan Baru rises to 3,474 m (11,398 ft) above the mountain town of Boquete and is the highest peak in Panama. Theoretically, it’s possible to see both Pacific and Atlantic from the top, but on a very clear day, which almost never happens here. The volcano stops almost all the clouds floating across this part of Panama and as such the rain almost never stops here with the rainforest and cloud forest flourishing everywhere. Two trails are most famous here – the Quetzal trail (which is now partially closed due to landslide) and the Pipeline Trail. We hiked the Pipeline – loads of birds (including 3 quetzals), hummingbirds, butterflies and caterpillars, tropical flora, and amazing scenery abound.
