Philippines: Manila – Quiapo Church

This 16th century church is located in the heart of the busy district north of Intramuros. While it’s pretty and old and historic, it’s more famous for its statue of Black Nazarene (couldn’t photograph) inside, which supposedly possesses magic powers. The grounds around the church are packed with various natural healers and potions remedy sellers, mostly selling the stuff that once ingested, smoked, eaten, or swallowed is supposed to terminate a pregnancy. Abortion is strictly illegal in Philippines, so many succumb to the poisons. This church is infamous for aborted fetuses being found in the morning at its doorsteps.
