Tuamotu/Fakarava: Exploring the Atoll by Bike
Fakarava only has about 25km of a single road – 15 east of the town of Rotoava and 10 west. The former is a state of the art wide cement surface built when several decades ago French President Mitterand was supposed to visit (he never did but the island got a road better then in most parts of France). You don’t even need a car in Fakarava, free bikes come with almost all accommodations and riding is easy plus it’s impossible to get lost on an atoll – ocean on one side and lagoon on the other. Great views are to be had along the way as well as encounters with exotic island flora.
