UAE/Ajman: Ajman Fort

Continuing to another emirate – Sharjah – and it’s main historic attraction – the Sharjah aka Al Hisn Fort. The fort was originally built in 1830 out of coral rock and adobe by the the. Ruler of Sharjah, Sultan bin Sadr Al Qassimi. It stands right in the heart of Sharjah, surrounded by tall modern buildings. Interestingly, in 1976 it was nearly completely demolished in an attempt to erase any association with the original sultan, but the disaster was averted at the last moment when just one round towers remained. It’s been fully renovated in the 1990s and open as a museum in 2015.
