UAE/Dubai: Jumeirah Archeological Site

Everybody comes to Dubai to see the gleaming skyscrapers and Burj Khalifa. But not many people know that just a few blocks of all this futuristic insanity lies an archeological site that dates back to 9th century AD and the Abbasid period. Excavations began here in 1969 and an entire city worth of old building foundations, a mosque, a caravanserai, and more were unearthed here. Pottery, jewelry, jars and dishes, glassware, and coins were discovered here. The view of the site – flat empty ancient ruins with the bag round of all the skyscrapers and Burj Khalifa in the distance is truly incredible and must see in Dubai. But timing is important – you don’t want the sun in your face.
