UAE/Umm Al Quwain: Al Ali Fort

Umm Al Quwain – is the second smallest and least populated emirate in the UAE. Al Ali Fort also known as Umm Al Quwain Fort is the main historic fort here and the Museum of Umm Al Quwain. Unlike other emirates, this one doesn’t have oil or gas, and just relies on its port and free trade zone for most of its revenue. On the other hand, it has some of the oldest archaeological sites in the country and many of the artifacts are displayed in the museum. The Al Ali Fort itself was built in 1768 and was the official residence of the ruling sheikh Al Muala dynasty until 1969. Of all the emirate forts and museums this was the most interesting inside, with scenes of old life recreated, guns and swords, a prison, and an ancient wind tower. Nobody comes here – so the fort is all yours.
