Wallis Futuna: Mata-Utu & Notre Dame Cathedral

Mata-Utu is the capital of the small Pacific island nation of Wallis & Futuna – this is the seat of the government, the King’s Palace (yep, there is still a king despite this being a French protectorate). The town is located down by the harbor with great views of the ocean, but the main attraction here is undoubtedly the grand Cathedral with twin towers and black and white volcanic and coral walls. The interior is richly decorated with blue Maltese crosses (which is also in the Wallis flag).
