USA/CA: Death Valley NP – Racetrack Playa Revisited
This place is so incredible that I had to revisit it after first having explored it in 2005. It takes a long 4WD ride to get here and you are almost certain to get a flat tire – but it is absolutely worth it. The stunningly flat clay of the playa has mysterious rocks and big stone blocks that move when the playa is wet due to wind gusts. They leave long tracks in the playa that eventually dry up and become permanent. The area just beneath the southern mountains has the highest concentration of rocks and tracks.
