USA/UT: Capitol Reef NP – Glass Mountain
Glass Mountain is a rare and unique geologic formation in the Cathedral Valley of the Capitol Reef National Park – it’s a mount of pure selenite (gypsum) crystals rising over 15 ft / 3 meters high. The gypsum comes from ancient 165 million year-old sea deposits that got uplifted and squeezed through rock strata over the years.
