China: Zhangye Danxia Landform – Slot Canyon
When I was done with viewing all the four platforms of the publicly accessible viewing areas at Zhangye Danxia Landform, I found out that there also existed an unadvertised private VIP tour where only 10 people per day were allowed to access some super spectacular and remote parts of the park. The first was a remote canyon which is a bona fide slot canyon like those in the American Southwest – towering sandstone walls and pillars and narrower and narrower passage. A truly stunning place and very different from the colored earth everywhere else on Zhangye Danxia Landform, the sandstone formation are mostly formed here by flash floods during the spring rains. Zero tourists here!
