Greece: Ancient Pella
Pella was the capital of the ancient Macedonia and the birthplace of Alexander the Great. It was a massive city with humongous palaces worthy one of the foremost nations in the world at its time. This was the place of residence, government, and spiritual all together with myriad of structures spreading far and away. Only a small portion, perhaps about 5% has been excavated so far, and the three mosaics that are now on display are perhaps the most stunning ever uncovered in the Hellenistic Art. Interestingly, in 2006, a farmer accidentally uncovered the biggest and richest Ancient Greek tomb ever found. Since then another 45 have been unearthed full of treasures, with estimated hundreds more still underground.
