USA/NY: NYC – Coney Island & Brighton Beach
You take a Q subway train from Manhattan and ride it all the way to the end to get a taste of a totally different side of New York City in Brooklyn along the coast beaches of Coney Islands and Brighton Beach and the famous boardwalk connecting the two. Coney Island has the iconic amusement park with a Ferris Wheel and various rides (all closed down for the coronavirus lockdown). The boardwalk is mostly empty, except for occasional runners or some fat Russians who wobbled here from Brighton Beach. In Brighton Beach, the all-Russian community, you step back into the Soviet days and the atmosphere of Odessa – food, shops, newspapers, restaurants, books – it’s back to the USSR!
