Turkey: Pergamum
The acropolis of the ancient city of Pergamum or Pergamon lies in high mountains above the modern city of Bergama, it takes a cable car to get up here. Pergamum was one of the richest and powerful Ancient Greek cities in the Asia Minor. Pergamum consists of two pets – Acropolis high up in mountains and Asclepion beneath it. The acropolis has the most striking stunning attractions, like the huge 15,000 seat theater cut into a mountainside, or the Temple of Athena, or the Pergamum library (the largest in ancient world and later taken to Alexandria in Egypt). There is also the Roman Temple of Trajan, Temple of Dyonisis and the Altar of Zeus (that was moved to Berlin). This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
