Tanzania: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Giraffes
There are no giraffes in the Ngorongoro Crater – they can’t go up and down the rim of the crater (too steep) and also there is limited amount of trees inside the crater. But the Ngorongoro Conservation area is much broader and includes not only the crater but also a large chunk of the adjacent land, creating an animal corridor to the Serengeti National Park. Half way on the way to Serengeti, there is hilly valley, that is packed with giraffes. Not one or a couple or a dozen – but we counted 112 giraffes in sight standing in the middle of this area. Fresh acacia bushes are what the giraffes are here for, often bending in awkward positions to eat the low branches. An absolute giraffe paradise!
