Gagauzia: Comrat
Comrat is the capital and largest town in Gagauzia, but it’s really nothing more than a tiny provincial town. There is a large golden-domed cathedral built in 1820 in the center of town, surrounded by a pretty park. Comrat is also a bit of a time warp Soviet nostalgia feel like Tiraspol – there’s also plenty of Soviet-style monuments and buildings: Lenin statue in front of a drab government House of Soviets, alley of monuments to present day totalitarian leaders, various WWII monuments, Afghan war memorial, and other examples of soviet-style architecture all around.
