Romania: Suceava – St John Monastery
The next UNESCO World heritage painted church was the one in the center of the city of Suceava – Mănăstirea Sfântul Ioan cel Nou or St John New Monastery. Again, it’s a full fortress of a church, surrounded by defensive walls with towers and several buildings inside the enclosure. This monastery was built between 1514-1522, completed by the King of Moldavia, Stephen IV. The exterior is simple with a beautifully tiled roof, while the interior is very richly painted with incredible frescoes all over.
