Romania: Suceava – Princely Fortress of Suceava

The town of Suceava holds another jewel that’s even better then then UNESCO-listed painted church – the medieval Suceava Fortress aka Princely Fortress of Suceava dating back to the late 14th century and was the residence of the Moldavian kings for over 200 years. The fortress withstood multiple sieges, before being finally conquered by Suleiman the Magnificent. It then spent century in near-ruins before being slowly restored and rebuilt. The fortress stands on a hill above the city with panoramic views from its thick walls and defensive towers.
