Burundi: Tora Tea Plantation
Burundi is known for tea cultivation and there are several large and small tea estates in the mountains. The country’s climate and high altitudes create favorable conditions for growing tea. Tea plantations are mainly concentrated in the northern part of the country. The tea plants grown are typically of the Camellia sinensis variety, which is used to produce black tea. One of such plantation we saw was the Tara Tea Estate, a spectacular expanse of green as far as the eyes can see.
