Papua New Guinea: Rabaul – Kokopo Market
The Kokopo Matket is truly spectacular and authentic to the bone! It is the largest market in the entire province of the East New Britain and one of the largest in PNG. It’s a vast marketplace with several covered buildings with stalls, but the space in between is also full of people selling stuff. The fruits and vegetables section has everything that’s grown here – from coconuts, pineapple and avocado to giant taro roots and sweet potatoes. Lots of fresh ginger roots and a variety of chili peppers. Exotic galip palm nuts are absolutely delicious! There is a section focused mostly on greens, another on handicrafts, and yet another on smoked fish.
