Papua New Guinea: Port Moresby

Port Moresby is the capital and the gateway to Papua New Guinea. No matter where in the country you are traveling to or from – you end up staying some time in the city. And it’s more then it deserves – there are hardly any attractions. It has a couple nice views of the old town from a hill, a few beaches loaded with trash, an architecturally unique Parliament Building (with a reputation of not being able to debate or accomplish anything), a National Museum (open only on special occasions otherwise to conserve electricity), a Nature Park (showcasing the PNG wildlife that is otherwise brutally hunted in the wild). Economist rates Port Moresby as the second worst livable city in the world and you won’t see any tourists – all the foreigner you run into in Port Moresby are here to negotiate deals for Papuan natural gas, oil, gold, timber, cocoa, or coffee.
