Mexico/Yucatan: Edzna Ruins

Edzna is a very large Mayan archeological site, rivaling those of Chichen Itza or Palenque. Edzna was inhabited since 600BC and abandoned around 1500AD, with population reaching around 25,000 at the peak. The main feature here is a huge palace or temple standing on a large platform that elevated everything above the jungle canopy. There is also the Ball Court and Temple of the Masks, all the structures in great condition. Iguanas sun themselves on the ancient rocks, which inside the temples you can find sleeping bats!
