Argentina: Los Glacieres NP – Andean Condor
The Andean Condors soar above the mountains of Patagonia and the glacial rivers running down from the Andes. The condor is the largest bird in the world (by combined measurement of weight and wingspan – some albatrosses have larger wingspan but are much lighter). The condor is a vulture and as such is a scavenger, focusing on large carrion of mostly deer. When flying, the condors almost never flap their wings, soaring on the thermal air streams almost effortlessly for 15 kg (33 lb) birds.
