Argentina: Mar Del Plata – Southern Sea Lions
Mar Del Plata is a nice resort town, an Argentinian version of Miami in the South America, but the main attraction we sought was the old port area, famously packed to the rim with noisy and playful sea lions, aka Southern or Patagonian Sea Lions. Hundreds of male and female sea lions haul themselves out at sunset on the cement embankment of the port, right in front of the picturesque red fishing boats. Males are significantly larger and more aggressive then females. It’s a cacophony of sounds and action as people gather to watch the animals thought-out the sunset and into the darkness. The sea lion is actually the symbol of Mar Del Plata.
