Azerbaijan: Fuzuli
Fuzuli used to be a town of nearly 20,000 before 1993 and a provincial capital, occupied by Armenia that year, almost all residents were forced to flee and became a ghost town for the next 30 years. In October 2020, Azerbaijan launched an attack to recapture its lost territories and Fuzuli, lying in a rather open plane, was quickly taken. A new international airport and a 4-lane highway have been built since and several small new construction settlements have popped up. Still the return of population is slow, there are lots of minefields all around, even along the highway, still not de-mined.
