Baffin Island: Pond Inlet – Exploring Around Pond Inlet

Exploring Pond Inlet in early summer when the Eclipse Sound is still frozen shut – dozens of snowmobile and qamatiik wooden sleds parked at the ice edge all ready to go hunting. Hunting is major if not main activity in Pond Inlet and locals drive onto the ice to hunt seal, or narwhals at ice edge, or drive across to the national park to hunt geese and get geese and murre eggs. Even polar bear hunting is allowed in limited quotas (narwhals and seal hunting is unlimited). Higher up, on the outskirts of town are some very interesting  panoramic views and the old ruins of earth dwellings made from rocks and whale skulls and bones. And I even tried a freshly cooked snow goose egg and some narwhal blubber.
