Belize: Caye Caulker – Laid Back Lifestyle

f you wanna get into one of the most laid-back, relaxed, and slowed-down atmospheres in the Caribbean – you gotta stay on Caye Caulker. Caye Caulker is one of the cayes (keys) of the Belize barrier reef. It’s a small island (actually cut in two by a recent hurricane) with an absolutely laidback lifestyle: no shirt no shoes no problems. There are no cars but only golfcarts driving on sandy roads along the beach. You get a free bike to explore the island at any lodging you stay. There are nearly fifty snorkel and dive and reef boat trip shops (go with Tsunami Adventure, which stands above the competition). The reef is only several hundred meters away. There are dozens of bars and cafe, all on the beach, all with spectacular views, and the menu full of fresh fish or conch or lobster (in season). There are only about 2000 people living on the island.
