Belize: San Pedro & Ambergris Caye
Ambergris Caye is the largest of the Belizean islands, located far out away from the mainland and close to the barrier reef. It’s famous for the turquoise seascapes and laid back attitude, although the main town here – San Pedro – is somewhat much more developed then Caye Caulker south from it. But this is classic Caribbean – blue seas, coral reef a stone throw away, good restaurant, and white sand. Interestingly, the Ambergris Caye is known as “Isla Bonita”, after Madonna mentioned San Pedro in her 1987 hit (although Madonna later said it had nothing to do with Belize).
