Benin: La Route des Tata – Boukoumbe to Natitingou
The road south from Boukoumbe to Natitingou is know as La Route des Tata for the high concentration of the traditional mudhouses, similar to the ones in Togo. The ethnic group residing here is locally known as Tammari people, but these are the same people known in Togo as Batammariba. The architecture of castle-like mud houses is very similar, but in Benin they are seemingly prettier and more colorful (plus the road is much better). The mud house is Calle Tata here. The area also shares the UNESCO World Heritage designation with Togo.
