Bornholm: Osterlars Round Church
Bornholm is famous for several medieval round churches and the largest and the oldest of them is the Osterlars Church in the center of the island, inland from Gudhjem. The church dates back to 11th century and is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The round nave is 16m in diameter and actually has three stories, and the reason for the roundness is the church’s defensive capabilities as a mini fortress. Sadly, unlike all ty churches in Gotland, here on Bornholm everything was closed.
