Cambodia: Kampi – Cruising on the Mekong River

A long drive across Cambodia to the eastern part of the country and across the mighty Mekong River. A small settlement of Kampi is a known spot for getting on the water and crushing the broad Mekong – many islands here in the middle of the stream are a good place to spot an extremely rare Irrawaddy dolphins . In Cambodia, the Mekong River is often called “Mother of Water” -it’s critically important for agriculture, transportation, and fishing. The river is broad and muddy, with a few swirling rough points here and there, but otherwise offers an enjoyable cruise by a simple wooden boat (that actually broke in the middle of the river, but was repaired), albeit very hot and sunny.
