Catalonia: Tarragona

Tarragona is overloaded with attractions for such a small town. First is the stunning seaside location – the famous Mediterranean Balcony gives you a bird’s eye view of the one of the most beautiful beaches in the Iberian Atlantic Coast – Playa Del Milagro. Then there are Roman ruins – Tarragona was know as Tarrago in Roman times and it was a large town. There is the spectacular Roman Amphitheater right above the beach, Roman city walls and towers (you can get awesome views from the top), Roman necropolis with tombs, and finally the Roman Forum – most dating from the 2nd century during the Emperor Augustus. When you had enough of Roman stuff, there is the medieval town with narrow streets, open squares, pretty buildings, and an absolutely stunning cathedral.
