China/Hainan: Sanya Bay
The largest beach in Hainan is the Sanya Bay – a long curve of fine yellow sand in front of the Sanya City itself. It is surprisingly empty with just a couple people strolling around or an occasional lost sunseeker. Several brand name hotels front the coast and they do a good job of keeping people inside rather then let them come to the beach – it’s an all-inclusive Chinese style with buffet restaurants, gaming parlors, beauty salons, koi pools and gardens, tea saloons, and loads of other decorative stuff. Overall, it’s a very picturesque bay, somewhat like Copacabana but without any people (like post nuclear war).
